What is "Lingual Technology"?

"Lingual" in German means ”from the tongue“, and lingual technology means the correction of misaligned teeth by fixing braces to the back of the teeth. This enables the correction of misaligned teeth without anybody seeing the fixed brace.

Is it possible with lingual technology to correct any misalignment of teeth?

Yes, unlike removable braces, with which only simple and small teeth movements are possible, especially with adults, lingual technology makes it possible to correct even extreme misalignments of teeth.

Up to which age can lingual technology be performed?

At any age, as far as the periodontal attachments are still largely intact. That is, teeth are still well attached to the bone. Many people think that a fixed brace is only suitable for children or juveniles and think “for me it is already too late“ but in general this is not true. Treatment with fixed braces even makes sense and is possible for patients beyond 60.

How long does a treatment with lingual technology take and what are the results?

Not longer than with conventional fixed braces and the results are the same.

Apart of aesthetics, are there any medical advantages of lingual technology?

Yes, as the back of a tooth is more robust and less vulnerable to decalcification and caries.  With lingual technology permanent damage to teeth is less likely in comparison to external fixed braces. Should the teeth already have chalky stains and decalcifications before the treatment, lingual technology is the method of choice.

Is lingual technology also suitable for children?

Yes, but the permanent teeth should already have largely penetrated.
